Today I will not be doing check in 😔

This is because, as a woman in America, I have been dealing with a lot of disappointment, and it's put me in a sad overall mood and negative space. Which isn't great for readings either tbh. I don't want that to spread either to the ppl I read for.

Thus I think it is best for me to take a break today.

If you have my Twitter, I have reposted a tarot reader who is really cool and has also been doing their own readings on Seunghan, so pls check them out too!! They do not have enough followers for all the work they have been doing.

I have a 4 day weekend, so I will be more actively posting other readings, not just the check-ins, so that we can revisit the other members too.

Also- at this time I have answered a lot of Riize questions and there are not as many anymore unless new mews pops up. SO I will (very sparingly) begin accepting questions for specific other groups.

I will preface this part bc I have already started being attacked 😀 but Riize is still my priority rn. If new news abt Seunghan comes out I will primarily focus on that. But i do not appreciate people yalling profanities in my askbox demanding I tell them when Seunghan will come back. I don't engage. I block. Immediately. So if you are ever thinking that yelling or being rude will get you a reading, think again. I'm so mf serious abt that. I have given a lot of time and energy and love to this group willingly bc I love them. But I am not your slave. I cannot do every single thing you request and I will not. we're not fucking STUPID. and a lot of the "stupidity" is often intentionally CREATED by making sure our schools are underfunded without access to proper education to build critical thinking skills and proper RESEARCH skills and limited access to news outside of newspapers and fox news. it's intentional. it's by design.

Educated rural folks who have the luxury (yes LUXURY and PRIVILEGE) to go to college to get educated LEAVE the areas where they could be the most beneficial for change and making communities diverse and more progressive and it furthers right wing, republican agendas by keeping people without access to resources and desperate and angry with the wrong people

"well you have access to the internet" yeah and the internet is full of misinformation and a lot of people are not taught how to look for credible sources or websites or how to look at biased language in writing so they ARE more susceptible to propaganda via fox News and the internet. you know what the internet also has? targeted ads and algorithms making sure you keep seeing the same kind of content and people who don't know DON'T know

I was from rural Iowa, a notoriously white, cis het area, fairly religious area, without a lot of access to the internet so I just. didn't know. and then i was afraid of ever saying anything again or asking questions. pls for the love of God use discernment and don't immediately vilify and attack well meaning people for not knowing what they don't know. that is EXACTLY how you can prevent people from ever being willing to grow and become educated

I remember watching the movie "Boys Don't Cry" with my mom about Brandon Teena, a trans man, and we both didn't know enough or understand enough about trans people we were unintentionally misgendering him when we talked about it but we both were so empathetic and heart broken for him

BEAR WITH ME AND MY RANT ABT THE NEW FITO PAEZ BIOPIC TV SHOW ON NETFLIX

OK......

So, basically Netflix released a biopic tv show about the life of Argentinian rock star Fito Paez and I'm literally so excited to watch it for a number of reasons, but the second I found out that this was a thing I got the urge to go on tumblr and just explode so here goes.

The show is called "El Amor despues del Amor", named after Paez's sensational hit song linked below:

Anyways the gringos butchered it and dubbed the show in English to be called Love After Music which makes no fucking sense because the song literally translates to Love after Love not Love after Music and it is just sooo stupid, but anyway what can I do abt that.

This show excites me so much, first of all, because I think Fito Paez 10000000% deserves this kind of recognition, because he really is one of the most iconic latinamerican artists of his generation, and his music challenged the assumption that good pop and rock music could only be made and produced in English.

I guess mostly the reason this show excites me is because it is a show about a latinamerican rock artist, which you just don't get that often and I have been dying to see one. (Also, Argentinian alternative rock is definitely one of my hyper-specific fandoms and new content being produced for it is really exciting).

My mission in life, amongst other things, is to give the South and Central American rock scene the recognition it deserves, because often times people act like it doesn't exist, and new wave/ 80s pop/rock only came out of the US or England. Latinamerican rock serves an extremely important purpose in society, as it was quite literally revolutionary. (I'm bullshitting and tired, so ignore the uneccessary sentences, but my point is valid). Rock in Argentina was used to fight back against A LITERAL MILITARY DICTATORSHIP. And the fact that all the rock music biopics are still England and US centric is really annoying.

I'm not saying I don't enjoy shows or movies about music produced in the US or England, but there are so many amazing stories to tell from the perspective and about the lives of Hispanic musicians. Why are they constantly overlooked?

AND NOT JUST ABOUT MUSIC

Where are the movies about Argentinian Military Dictatorship? (IK they exist guys im just saying we should talk more about the fact that it happened). Actually for anyone interested pls watch the movie "Argentina, 1985", it is great!

Where are the movies about indigenous communities being wiped from existence in virtually every South American country?

Or, as a Colombian, can we get a show about terrorism or the drug trade in Colombia that isn't made from the bullshit NARCOS perspective of white guy policemen saviors, when we all know that all American cops did in Colombia was militarize our police forces and teach them how to abuse the public.

Which speaking of Seru Giran, how is there not a movie abt that yet. Seru Giran is such an iconic fucking band led by none other than Charly Garcia. They are a gift from God to humanity, they are pioneers of progressive rock, I don't know anyone like them. And I'm always saying this but if Seru Giran were British or American they would be just as highly regarded as the Beatles or the Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd because they are just too good.

OKAY SO, TO CONCLUDE THIS EXTREMELY INCOHERENT RAMBLING,

I am extremely happy about the fact that latino stories are being told in media like this because its something that i feel as a fan of rock music and a latina i have been missing from my life. And you may think why do we need movies abt dictatorship or drug deals or terrorism. Doesn't that just perpetuate the stereotype that that's all your country has. NO ON THE CONTRARY. When it's told by big American corporations, it often loses meaning. Shows written by latinos about latinamerican experiences showcase the reason I am so proud to be latina. Because we are a resilient people. Our humanity shines through even in the darkest of times. In the midst of wars and dictatorship, we can come up with shit like this and it is so cool. And I wish there was more recognition for that.

So yeah maybe this isn't a rant abt Fito Paez, even though I love him so much. And I'm more than sure this show is about his life and not about Argentinian military dictatorship.

But I guess mostly I hope this will encourage more latino filmmakers to tell our stories. Tell our stories because they are so cool, and I love watching movies abt rockstars. But I would love it so much more to watch movies about rockstars who look like me.

i don't think you truly grasp just how fucking AWFUL things used to be for people like us. you think it's bad now because conservatives are rallying super hard all of a sudden, but imagine being gay or trans back when openly admitting to either of those things could get you straight-up arrested. and those people existed just as much back then; they just had to suck it up because they were cursed to be born in a time in which open hostility to them was such a norm that they couldn't even THINK of living as their true selves. trans people throughout all of human history have had to endure incurable body dysphoria because the medicine wasn't there to help them. things are SO much better now. (and for the record, everyone back then thought the world was gonna end too; ask any old-enough american what living in the cold war was like.)

that is not to say things aren't looking scary right now. conservatives had a wake-up call and realized they're losing harder than they've ever lost before, so they're lashing out and trying to do everything they can to push us back into the dark ages. it is important to be vigilant, to vote them out, to do what you can to make sure their mind virus infects as few people as possible. but their ideology is entirely based around losing. they're literally openly and proudly anti-progress, which is self-evidently fucking stupid, and the conservative party has spent its entire existence taking L after L after L as we gain more civil rights.

they're doing some serious damage right now, a lot of peoples' lives are going to be worse for a while. but it's a downward spike in an overall upward trend. do you really think they're gonna win this time after they lost the previous 99 times? even the nazis ended up ultimately losing after they "won".

this is all from an american perspective, of course; a lot of other countries still have a long way to go. 99% of human history has been spent with minority groups not having basic human rights, and america has only just recently begun clawing its way out of that tribalism and into something actually civilized. i think countries like china and russia are gonna remain fucked for quite some time, unfortunately. but they'll probably get there too, one day. once the progress has been made, all you can do to go backwards is flail like an infant and complain about the woke mob being too compassionate towards their fellow man. not super effective at causing lasting damage.

i decided to pay for linkedin premium since i thought it would help my chances of getting a job but it's really not helping. i keep seeing different posts from people, not just on linkedin but pretty much every social platform talking about how hard it is to find a job. and the amount of times i've gone out for food and the person before me is asking if they are hiring.

i'm still watching the bear season 3 but napkins... i cried. tina's struggle was so real and i was sobbing. and the coldness you encounter during the entire experience. it's so rare to feel like you are getting anywhere.

i've generally just been depressed about the world.

america and it's government for one. it's hard to watch. i think it's even harder to watch the vote blue no matter who crowd. i used to be a staunch believer in being an active participant in voting but ever since i saw that comment that was like "they encourage you to go through their systems for change so that you are stopped in the system" (not exactly but you get the gist) made me rethink it. why bother voting for the change we need when no one is bringing it to the table? it's hard to watch someone BEG for "vote blue!! vote BLUE!!" when active genocide and disenfranchisement has been happening under blue. like.. on god... are you dumb? blue or red you are FUCKED.

i love taking the opportunity to criticize the american government so it's hard to listen to people reinforce the system. voting isn't even equal!!!!! should've been your first clue that it's all fucked up!!!

brazil seems to be controversial anytime i talk about it but it feels like people don't think south americans are people sometimes. "so much crime, corruption, it's dangerous, you can't trust".... i have to wait 3 years for 750m of road to be repaired. cops are always just lounging at construction sites. there are way too many charities and foundations set up by billionaires for tax write offs. assaults on transit are so much more frequent. healthcare is getting less and less funding people need to pay for services. kids are stupid as hell because education is also underfunded. mass immigration is burdening social services because we don't have enough resources to accommodate these people AND immigrants who are mostly international students are being targeted by universities and colleges so they can charge ridiculous tuition and leave them with no support. so as if it's really any better here.

and yet, when i talk about wanting to leave, everyone has an opinion. "oh it's not really that great there, it's over hyped" "it's still expensive to live there" "you won't have anyone" pls. i barely have anyone HERE.

i don't feel supported on decisions i want to make for myself. they are selfish wants so yeah i get it, but i don't care. i want it for me!!!! i am miserable!!! my mental health is in the gutter and the more time i'm subjected to living at home, the worse it gets. i'm drowning and people keep high fiving me instead of throwing a life support.

and more than anything, the lack of support makes me doubt my ability to do anything. maybe i'm not capable of finding a better job? maybe i'm not even deserving of better? is this just my burden to bare? will i never escape?

it makes me wish i was dead instead. rather be dead than live through all this. not even a glimmer of hope. there is not light at the end of the tunnel. i rather be dead than have to live all these years just for the pay off to come when i'm 50 or something. that's 20 more years of pain? no thanks.

all this to say, i know im not alone on this. many people are in my scenario. they are probably handling it better than i am. i'm not good at this - i'm not patient, and clearly not optimistic. i feel like i'm reaching the end of my rope.

but anyway, bukowski. my god. this was sparked because someone posted a quote and i follow a tag they used on it, and i’ve already lost the post so i don’t even remember what quote it was, but. first off, he was a genuinely awful person. like, that was part of his schtick — or maybe just his personality — just being this awful, gross dude who said awful, gross things about women (and probably others, but when i went to search for example quotes for this post, one of the suggested searches was "charles bukowski quotes about women" because that's a genre of quotes by him). that's not news even to people who share his quotes (because he's one of those authors where no one has actually read him, he's just Imminently Quotable for social media), it's something they appreciate about him.

thing is, all that aside, my visceral hatred is because i specifically cannot believe people unironically share his quotes. just. my fucking god. the man is like the hero of every one of my relatives/relatives’ friends who grew up in a bubble of red rural america who one day were like, “you know what? god isn’t real and i’m gonna make my identity into doing psychedelics and liking music my dad liked” but before the 70s came back in style.

like, it’s the late 00s/early 10s and you’re a teenager stranded in some bumfuck nowhere town in the south, and you’re at a house party with some weird summer fling (whose obsession with ayn rand is starting to turn you off but a few years later he’d thank you for turning him into a socialist so you don't feel so bad looking back) who’s gone to the bathroom, so you’re sitting on lawn furniture awkwardly drinking beer and this guy with long hair and a bandana and a tie dye shirt turns to you with dinner plate pupils and asks if you know about led zeppelin, and when you say yes he’s like but Do You Get It and then. AND THEN. he quotes bukowski. weirdly specific memories smushed together because these types of dudes all blend together aside, the quote i hate the most? the one that turns my blood into a sea of violence roiling beneath my skin? THIS ONE:

just. what? oh my god, WHAT. oh no ): people don’t like being fully clothed and getting wet ): people are inconvenienced by drops of water when they didn’t set aside a specific time to get naked and get in a bathtub and control the temperature ): just, gtfo.

You are sitting with all the avengers at dinner. Everyone is enjoying their Mac and cheese, but something is on your mind.

"America, where'd you get your jean jacket?" You suddenly ask.

Everyone looks at you sort of confused.

"Uh, I found the jacket in some universe and thrifted it." She says.

"Kamala, where'd you get yours?"

Kamala shrugs. "I dunno. Found the jacket and embroidered the patches on."

You sigh.

"Why do you ask?" Kamala almost sarcastically asks, knowing you'll tell them what you want anyway.

"Cause I want a signature jacket but I don't have any sewing or clothing abilities." You frown.

"Mine was mostly how it came." Yelena says.

You glare at her. "Nu-uh. You added more pockets."

"That is true," she concludes as she adds more hot sauce (A/N: I literally CANNOT remember what she actually added for the life of me and I can't find the episode script anywhere, if someone could pls lmk that would be great).

"I can't just buy something, then it wouldn't be cool and authentic like all of yours." You pout.

A few weeks later, you are lying in your bed watching something on the TV that you honestly couldn't care less about. It is 1am, you're tired but you can't sleep and you're so unexplainably lonely for no reason.

Suddenly, there's a knock on your door, literally making you jump so hard you drop the sleeve of crackers sitting next to you onto the floor.

"Shit," you whisper as you stand up, careful to avoid making the crackers a bigger mess. "Who the hell is knocking on my door at this god-forsaken hour of the morning."

By this time, the sleep deprivation has set in so you sound like a founding father turned into a goblin.

You open the door to see America standing there. Your heart immediately skips a beat. Your hair is a mess, there's crackers on the floor, and you've turned into your nightly maniac doppleganger and now your crush decides to come knocking?! Now she wants to talk?! Not all the times you deliberately dressed up when you knew she was coming over and put on makeup and brushed your teeth!

Of course. No, this makes perfect sense.

"Hi?" You try to bring your crazy voice down a few notches.

"Hi, um," she shifts. "I wanted to bring you this."

She pulls from behind her back a jean jacket hoodie (whatever those things are actually called). It has little hearts stained onto the sleeves and a few of the buttons have little smiley faces on them and embroidered to the front is your superhero logo.

You blink for a moment. America shifts again nervously.

"You uh-" she clears her throat. "You said you wanted a jacket and so I just, um, found this one and added some stuff but if you don't like it that's okay. This was stupid, I shouldn't of-"

"No," you cut her off, taking the jacket out of her hands. "I love it." You beam.

"Really?" She looks so relieved. Why is she this stressed over talking to you?

"Yes! It's so cool!" You squeal. Before you know what you're doing, your muscles move and you pull America into a hug.

You blush when you realize what you've done. But only a second later, her arms wrap around you. A little smile grows on your face.

"This is the sweetest thing anyone's ever done for me." You practically whisper. Why are you whispering? You pull out of the hug. "Thank you so much. I-"

The words die on your tongue as you see America's eyes flick down to your lips for just a second. You can feel yourself leaning closer to her and you think she's leaning too. Then, you lips connect ever so gently and sweetly.

"Ten bucks!" Kamala's voice scares both of you, causing you to bump foreheads. America's eyes immediately widen as she touches your forehead to make sure you're okay.

Your heart doesn't know what to do.

"Да пошла ты, сука. Don't be so cocky." Yelena yells back. "You only won by two days!"

"Haha," Kamala taunts. "You wish you won by two days."

"You bet on us?" You finally lay eyes on Kalama who was not even trying to hide.

"Well, yeah. Not like you wouldn't do the same if you were us."

"I'm moving out tonight." You declare, grabbing America's wrist and gently guiding her inside your door before slamming it shut.

You both burst into little giggles. You love this family.
